ZERO-ZEIT. Mack und seine Künstlerfreunde

Heinz Mack: ZERO PERIOD. Mack and his artist friends

»Artists are loners—seldom do they become friends«
Heinz Mack

Düsseldorf, 1958: Heinz Mack and Otto Piene found ZERO, an artist movement that Günther Uecker soon joined. ZERO meant giving up everything secure and venturing a new beginning in the arts. This departure was very attractive – many artists sympathized with ZERO and appeared in exhibitions and performances throughout Europe. Since they had little support from the established art scene at the beginning, this could only be achieved through strong cohesion and exchange – friendships developed. This book was written in close collaboration with Heinz Mack. It takes you back to the period of this artistic awakening with numerous illustrations and introduces the artists connected by friendship. A special highlight is the hitherto unpublished correspondence and documents from Heinz Mack's private archive.
