The editor of the catalogue raisonné of Mark Rothko’s paintings, David Anfam, begins his introduction to our exhibition with the following quotation from Caspar David Friedrich: ‘A picture must not be invented, but felt’.
Our exhibition entitled “Colour Spaces: Graubner – Melotti” is a long-cherished wish. It has a
lot to do with meditation and contemplation. Gotthard Graubner and Fausto Melotti—both
artists primarily let colour speak for itself, without shaping it further into compositions. It is
colour and its effect on us that is the focus of this exhibition.
Both of our artists work in their fields with the aim of taking us, the viewers, out of the
hectic time of the now for a moment and thereby experiencing, feeling their art sensually
and also physically.
