Panel Talk with Robert Fleck and Michael Beck: Saturday, September 7, 4 pm
In collaboration with the recently established ‘Mack Foundation’, which is presenting itself to the public for the first time in New York, we will present ceramics, a still little-known aspect in Heinz Mack’s œuvre.
Formally, Mack draws a direct line from his previous works in sculpture in his approach to the medium, as well as from his lifelong preoccupation with light as a material immanent to all his works. Yet, he is also interested in ceramics as an elemental cultural technique. ‘Ceramics are not only among the oldest artifacts known to mankind, but have also survived for thousands of years without showing the slightest trace of patina’, he says. ‘Perhaps in old age the artist has a deeper, unconscious interest in objects that can become very old with dignity’.
We are looking forward seeing you!
