Marc Chagall. Daphnis & Chloé

Beck & Eggeling presentes in a special exhibition 42 lithographs and two original drawings of Marc Chagall's book »Daphnis & Chloé«.

The artist was commissioned at the beginning of 1950 by art critic and publisher E. Tériade to illustrate the story of »Daphnis & Chloe«, an ancient romance by Greek poet Longos. With bright and delicate colours Chagall created intimate depictions of scenes from the story about the two orphaned foundlings Daphnis and Chloé, who were raised by shepherds and found their happiness having overcome numerous obstacles. The book was published in 1960/61.
