Paul Klee – Fausto Melotti

Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art presents a significant and unique exhibition project juxtaposing two fascinating artist personalities, PAUL KLEE (1879–1940) and FAUSTO MELOTTI (1901–1986). The exhibition will present approximately 20 paintings, works on paper and prints by Paul Klee and as many sculptures by and works on paper by Fauso Melotti. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication with contributions from the Zentrum Paul Klee Bern, the Kunstmuseum Winterthur and the Archivo Melotti, Milan.

The visual languages of the works of the painter Klee and the sculptor Melotti are closely related. Both artists developed superordinate structures through the use of lines and successfully brought together both figurative and abstract elements. The proximity to the compositional principles of music, as well as a facileness of expression, which is both humorous and at the same time melancholic, are characteristic of the works of both artists.

The Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern examines the influence of Klee's life and work on the art of the 20th century and presents him in juxtaposition with artists such as Pablo Picasso, Franz Marc, Wassily Kandinsky and, recently, the artists of the CoBrA group. For our exhibition project, the Zentrum Paul Klee will contribute an art historical analysis to the publication.

Contributions will also be made by the Kunstmuseum Winterthur, which is currently presenting a comprehensive solo exhibition dedicated to Fausto Melotti that was previously on view in the Kunsthalle Mannheim. The Archivo Melotti has also committed itself to making a contribution to the exhibition catalogue.
